The Beatles Cartoon - Strawberry Fields Forever (c. 1966)

I just discovered the Beatles Cartoon series the other day. I didn't know it existed. This is my fav that I've found so far. It's no "Yellow Submarine", but it's pretty cute...

Mentos! The Froth Maker!

Okay, I'm probably about the 1,000,000th odd person on the planet to blog about this thing, but I'm going to anyhow. Because I think it's cool. I'm not sure if the Mentos + Diet Coke reaction has made the evening news yet, but it certainly is all over the Net, in case you hadn't heard. I'm not sure how I ran across it a month ago, but it was probably one of the top Google Videos or something. There are THOUSANDS of these videos. This one is the first one I saw and it's funny: http://tinyurl.com/puolo. (Okay, so hearing a kid quasi-curse is a little unsettling, but I think I've desensitized myself to it already...) I think the boys and I are going to have to try this one of these days...

Well, then I caught Dan watching this one the other day and I was floored: http://tinyurl.com/pw9m6. By the end, I was in stitches! This is way over the top and so well executed. I bow to the uber-nerds! (The sound is better on their website: http://www.eepybird.com/dcm1.html, but it requires ActiveX and QuickTime to watch, and the video’s not as big...) Cheers!

Now We Are Six...

Somehow, Jared is now six. Not quite sure what happened--I can't believe how fast time is going! ...He's been anticipating this birthday much more rabidly than any of the others before. In fact, he decided not long after his Spiderman party last year, that he wanted a Superman party this year... I kind of tried to talk him out of it, because Superman was rather obscure, and I couldn't figure out how I was going to do it, but I finally agreed. Well, I eventually found out that Superman Returns is coming out...right now, at the time of his birthday. Interesting timing--he sure "called" that one. (Hello, marketing.)

Well, since our sons' parties are one of my major artistic outlets for the year, I went at it with full gusto. I ordered Superman party supplies on eBay (got a pretty good deal) because they weren't available in the stores yet (at least not the half dozen places I checked at...) Jared and I agreed on a cake design months ago. (Pictured below.) It is my most ambitious to date--and was quite exhausting. Yes, that is all icing. (You don't want to know how my food coloring [paste] went into it.) I also made a giant poster for a game of "Pin the 'S' on the Superman" (Don't have any pix of that.)

We had the party at a large picnic pavilion at the park closest to our home, with 12 kids! Most of them were from our homeschool group. We had a great time. The weather was lovely, and the kids played on the playground, looked at turtles swimming in the pond, and did all those fun things you do at parties. I think a good time was had by all. ((I'm glad Nathan's birthday is 4 months from now...))

It's Supercake!
